POLAND: Witness to History from the Holocaust to the Revival of Jewish Life

World War II left horrible scars on the face of Europe and its peoples, but keeping the past alive is key to ensuring that history never repeats itself. Through this program, volunteers will trace events beginning before the Holocaust through today’s efforts to revive Jewish life and culture.  The trip will begin and end in Krakow, Poland, with a visit to Oswiecim and the World Heritage Site of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. Volunteers will spend five days there, helping with grounds keeping, general maintenance, and working with artifacts to preserve the site through hands-on service.  While in Oswiecim, volunteers will receive special guided tours and even may even have a chance to speak with a survivor. Participants will be able to leave this trip with a better understanding of contemporary genocide prevention. This trip is 13 days for $2,835.
